Hydrangeas by my window

Cherry noticed the hole that was recently dug into the heavy Georgia-red soil and wondered what Ken and Laura were going to plant there. Soon she was lost again in her thoughts, wondering about the characters in “The Lovely Bones” as well as those in “Jamaican Cherry Juice.”

She was just starting to enter Abigail’s mind when it started to rain. Why did she drive all the way from her home on the east coast to California by herself?  The rain rushed through the pine leaves and quietly settled on the grass. Cherry watched as some of the silent water collected in the hole before she pulled the blanket over her cold feet.

Cherry saw Ken with the hydrangea plant and its beige-pink flowers in his wheelbarrow early on Memorial Day. Why was he planting them by her window? Did he receive instructions from Laura to plant them there? Was he summoned? Suddenly there were blue hydrangea flowers everywhere; they were hidden in the pages of “The Lovely Bones,” they were in June’s imaginary garden and they were also locked securely in Cherry’s suitcase as an unforgettable fragrance.

Wow – its great to have Cherry Brown back. When I clicked the link and noticed that it was a blog, I was elated.
I love the flower and I thought of the people of Haiti and prayed that some day soon, they will be waking up to sweet smelling savour from plants like the hydrangeas, and that they all will have a window to plant theirs at.
    Cheers Cherry Brown.
